Annabelseems to have the perfect life: a loving family, an awesome house, and a great job as a teen model. But in reality, her junior year is shaping up to be the worst year ever. Her mom is depressed, her sister, Whitney, is dangerously anorexic, her other sister, Kirsten, is living off in New York, and she wants to quit modeling but can't get up the courage. But on top of it all something happened in the beginning of summer at a party that caused her to lose all of her friends. Everyone completely misunderstood what happened, but Annabel can't tell anyone the truth.
Just when it seems like her life is over, Owen comes into her life. He's always been a loner with anger management issues and a strange taste in music. He's one to intimidate anyone around him, but he ends up being the person that teaches Annabel how to be honest and helps her finally come clean about what really happened at that party.
Annabel appears to have a perfect life, but she has trouble telling the truth. She feels it's easier to tell something someone wants to hear, rather than hurting them with the truth. She believes that image really matters, but when everyone just looks at her for what happened at the party, that doesn't seem to matter as much anymore.
Ever since Owen punched a kid in the parking lot, everyone's been completely scared of him. He always sits alone at lunch and is never seen without his iPod. He's the one that picked Annabel up when she was down and helped her through her story. Because of him, Annabel learns what it means to be honest.
Whitney and Kirsten are Annabel's sisters. Both of them were pushed into modeling throughout their childhood. They moved to New York together to pursue their modeling. Kirsten had a few jobs but was starting to focus more on school. Whitney, however, was doing great but it drove her into anorexia. She had to come home and go through a program to help cure her of her disease. Although they both seem to have their own problems at some points, they each help Annabel in their own ways.
